LON WORKS BASED MEANS FOR DISTRIBUTED CONTROL AND MONITORING SAFETY PARAMETERS DISPLAY SYSTEM (SPDS1/ GARDIA 4)

One of the basic principles for achieving high reliability and availability in the management and control of the Nuclear Power Plants is redundancy of the provided information to the Operators. This information shall be processed and presented in a synthetic and, at the same time, meaningful graphic form to allow the operator to take the right decision at the right time. Along with the information flow for the technologic processes, which is made available by an regular data acquisition and information processing systems, usually called Plant Computers, the Operator shall have available another source, which is independent physically, logically and geographically from the ordinary information system.
This is the function of GARDIA 4.

GARDIA 4 was designed, developed and installed to two Units of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power plant in Bulgaria.

DICS Intertrade, being LonWorks Independent Developer, designed highly reliable distributed system, which utilizes the range of modules, which are presented below.

The highly developed and proven technology of Echelon Corporation was the backbone of the architecture of GARDIA 4.

These systems have been in operation since 1999. No single failure has occurred since then.

GARDIA 4 possesses, which has features of Expert System. It processes a lot of specific and highly important signals and presents messages to the operator in a concise and easily accepted form, along with registering of the emergency events and their cause – effect relation.

The system provides also information to the Emergency Remote Control Center through reliable Fiber Optic Extension of the LonWorks busses.

This system can be utilized for remote telemetry control of scattered objects for monitoring and control on a highly efficient price.

It has all the advantages of the LonWorks technology.
