FOT1300 Fiber Optic Transceiver

FOT1300 is a fiber optic transceiver designed for use in a LonWorks network. FOT1300 emulates network topologies made of conventional metal conductors such as twisted pair. It supports point-to-point, bus and ring topologies without need of reconfiguration when changing the topology of the network. The FOT1300 transceiver is using 50/125 or 62.5/125 multi-mode fiber optic cables with ST connectors. The transceiver conforms to the SMX I/O interface standard and is designed to work in conjunction with Connect's Modular Router Unit (additional information about this router can be found here). However it can be connected to any LonWorks device provided that the neccesary mechanical and electrical interface is available.

FOT1300 connects to a fiber optic network employing two transmitters and two receivers with ST connectors. For connection to another node two fiber optic cables are required - one for transmitting information to the receiver of the other node and one for receiving information from its transmitter. The transmitters and receivers are grouped as follows:

Group 1: Rx1 and Tx1
Group 2: Rx2 and Tx2

In order to make a connection to another node a transmitter and receiver from the same group must be used. They must be connected to transmitter and receiver, which also are from one group.

The possile topologies are:

1. Point to point topology

2. Bus topology

3. Ring topology

FOT1300 is available from DICS Intertrade or as a part of Connect's Modular Router Unit.
