KSPO System Modernization
(KSPO - Abbreviation for Computer based System for Operator Support)

KSPO is distributed information system for Operator Support at Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. The System architecture is build on distributed system of doubled programmable controllers and PC based Work Stations. The doubled programmable controllers acquire and process signals from the object. The communication bus integrates the controllers with the Operator Work Stations.
The signals are generated by sensors and transducers, which convert them into standard 4-20 mA signals, RS 232 codes . In addition to that a substantial amount of signals are acquired from Digital Computer ÈÂ500Ì. Special modules, converting the signals from proprietary bus to signals, which the buss of the Distributed System can handle and send to the points. where they are needed.
The workstations acquire data, from the bus and after additional processing, show it on the Workstation displays.
The Workstations for one unit are :
Four Workstations for:
The Reactor and Turbo- generator Unit Operators;
For the Operator on Duty for the Unit
and
For Engineering and Maintenance.
A higher layer of the network is provided for the Operator on Duty of the Division of the four units, Router, connecting the system to the Administration Information System and Analytical Station.
Each station acquires through the bus more than 6000 variables. These variables are shown in a different format, understandable by the operators. The comprehensive representation of the information and the intuitive in- depth navigation helps the operators to take decisions, correctly and on time. The cause – effect relation alleviates the failure analyses.

The four unit workstations have equal software configurations, with the exception of Engineering Station, which has R/W CD, printer attributes. The Engineering Station is separated in a special compartment, together with the printer, where the Engineering and Maintenance personnel has access.
Each Workstation has access to the printer.

The Workstation screens are extremely informative. Over 35 mnemonic screens are at the disposal of the operators. The number of shown variables per screen is 50- 60. as average. There are , however, mnemonic screen with the extreme number of variable – 100.

The variables are also presented as bar-graphs, in trends and also as area( volume) filled in with different color, according to its current value etc.
The navigation in-depth allows presenting the variable data in a progressive detail-ness.

Twenty historical screens, each of them containing 16 parameters, with fixed configuration are existing on each Workstation. This history can be observed at random time segments. There is a special band o the bottom of each historical screen, where the history picture of status of the controllers is shown. This allows the observer to see if some wrong status of the controllers can influence of the correct historical picture of the parameter variables.
There is option, the operator to develop his customized historical screen with eight freely configurable parameter variables.
Screens for discrete parameter historical picture of up to 50 variables are available.

The Workstations have the following additional functions:
Alarm journals;
Free selectable parameters report printing out;
Diagnostic functions;
Data dossier editing;
Help and others.
The Analytic Workstation and the Division Operator on Duty Workstation, have all the information, gathered from the both units – 3 and 4 and all have sophisticated means for analyses, printing out and history archiving.

There are two options for Historical analyses on these Workstations: Online and Offline.
The Online mode is self-explanatory. The offline mode allows the gathered information on a certain Workstation to be copied in the Analytical Workstation and subsequently analyzed and further processed. In fact, there are six equal historical images, stored on different stations- the three workstations for the Operators in the unit, the Engineering Workstation and the Workstation for the Operator on Duty of the Division of the four units and the Analytical Workstation.
The Data Dossiers of different Workstations can be edited on the Analytical Workstation and then downloaded through the communication bus to the specific Workstation.
The ROUTER Workstation implements transferring of the full data online to SQL tables, which are accessible to the Administrative Information System. The Router has an access to the both unit sub-systems, whre from it gathers the necessary data. In order to ensure data transferring to the Administrative System ad has an access to the unit sub-systems, the Router has two LAN communication controllers.
All Workstations have unified time. It is synchronized through the Router Workstation and is transferred to each KSPO Workstation.
